Al-Ahly's Walid Azaro suspended for CAF Champions League final

The Confederation of African Football have suspended Al-Ahly striker Walid Azaro for unsporting behaviour following his actions in the first leg of the CAF Champions League final against Esperance, meaning he will miss Friday's second leg in Rades.

The Morocco international was at the centre of a tempestuous affair which Ahly won 3-1 in Alexandria on Friday, after being awarded two penalties in dubious circumstances.

Referee, VAR in spotlight as Al Ahly win Champions League final first leg

Al Ahly have claimed the advantage after the first leg of the 2018 African Champions League final with a controversial 3-1 victory over Tunisian side Esperance at the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria on Friday.

Tunisia part ways with Faouzi Benzarti

The Tunisian Football Federation have unexpectedly parted ways with head coach Faouzi Benzarti, despite securing qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this week.

The veteran coach was point appointed by the FTF in July, and as yet, no reason has been given for his departure.

Madagascar qualified for their first ever Africa Cup of Nations after beating Equatorial Guinea 1-0 at home on Tuesday and were later joined by Egypt, Senegal and Tunisia in the 24-team field for next year's expanded finals.

With two nations qualifying from 11 of the 12 four-team groups, Madagascar were always going to have a good chance to make the breakthrough, at their 17th attempt, after starting their Group A campaign with an away win in Sudan last year.

North African giants Egypt and Tunisia have qualified for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Eswatini and Niger respectively on Tuesday.

Goals either side of half time from Ahmed Hegazy and Marwan Mohsen were enough for Egypt, who were without injured Mohamed Salah, to down Eswatini 2-0 in Manzini.
