Women's footballers in Spain went on strike for the first time on Saturday.

Spanish women's football players have decided to return to the pitch after temporarily halting their strike which began on Saturday.

Players from Barcelona's women's team would be part of a planned strike in the Primera Division Iberdrola.

Spain's soccer federation (RFEF) has pledged €1.15 million to help pay the salaries of women's top-flight players in order to try to prevent a planned strike, it said on Wednesday.

The decision followed a meeting between the players and RFEF president Luis Rubiales.

"The RFEF will pay a part of the salary of players in the Primera Division Iberdrola in order to unblock the stand off that currently exists between clubs and athletes," said an RFEF statement.

Players from Spain's top division have said they will go on strike in November.

The football players in the Spanish women's first division have announced they will go on strike indefinitely, starting on Nov. 16, after failed mediation between their union and the clubs.

Players are demanding improved rights, such as a guaranteed minimum €16,000 salary, to be covered in the event of an injury, and a pro-pregnancy program.

The football players in the Spanish women's first division have announced they will go on strike indefinitely because of a deadlock in negotiations regarding the improvement of their rights.
