If Son, 25, wins a gold medal at the Games, he will be exempt from military service, a mandatory 21-month period for all able-bodied South Korean males under 27.

The games run from Aug. 18 to Sept. 1, with the start of the new Premier League season due to start on Aug. 11. Son is already set to play in the World Cup for South Korea, who...
