Austria closed in on a place at Euro 2020 when a first-half goal from defender Stefan Posch gave them a crucial 1-0 win away to toothless Slovenia, who suffered their second defeat in four days on Sunday.

Austria, with 16 points from eight games, are second in Group G and five points clear of North Macedonia and Slovenia with two games to play. The top two in the group qualify directly for next year's European Championship.

Slovenia knocked off Group G front runners Poland 2-0 to tighten the race in the Euro Qualifying group stage.

Slovenia ended Poland's 100% record in the Euro 2020 qualifiers when goals from Aljaz Struna and Andraz Sporar gave them a shock 2-0 win over the Group G leaders on Friday.

Poland had not even conceded a goal in the section heading into the game but their defensive wall was finally breached in the 35th minute, just as they seemed to be taking control.

Sporar flicked on Josip Ilicic's corner and Struna stuck out a leg at the far post to divert the ball past Lukasz Fabianski.
