Peru striker Paolo Guerrero leaves Flamengo for Internacional

SAO PAULO -- Peru striker Paolo Guerrero has signed a three-year deal with Internacional, the Brazilian club said on Sunday.

Guerrero, who captained Peru in their qualification campaign for the Russia World Cup, joined the Porto Alegre side after three years with Flamengo.

The 34-year old, whose former clubs also include Bayern Munich, Hamburg and Corinthians, missed much of this year after testing positive for a cocaine byproduct.

Peru manager Ricardo Gareca has agreed to stay with the team through qualifying for the 2022 World Cup.

LIMA -- Argentine Ricardo Gareca has signed a new three-year contract to lead Peru's national team through qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, he said on Wednesday.

Gareca, 60, has been celebrated as a national hero by many in Peru since leading the team back to the World Cup finals in 2018 for the first time since 1982.

The contract can be extended for an additional year if Peru qualify for the 2022 World Cup, said Gareca who took charge of the team in 2015.

Chile and Peru to meet in friendly at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium

Chile and Peru will meet in a friendly in Miami on Oct. 12, the Chilean football federation (ANFP) said on Monday.

The so-called Clasico del Pacifico had been expected to be played in Peru but will be held at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

QUITO, Ecuador -- The chairman of Peru's football federation is under pressure to resign after being linked to allegations of illicit favours to a judge.

Edwin Oviedo said in a statement he "never offered trips, tickets, lodging or any other improper benefit to judges or investigators."

Oviedo said he would only resign if a judge ruled he had committed a crime. Five members of the federation's consulting committee left after the allegations were made.
