Ivory Coast squeaked by Niger on Saturday.

AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie scored a second-half penalty as Ivory Coast laboured to a 1-0 victory over Niger in their opening 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Group K qualifier in Abidjan on Saturday.

It was the second spot-kick of the game for the home side, after Max Gradel missed a first-half chance from 12 yards having argued furiously with Arsenal forward Nicolas Pepe over who would take the kick.

Liberia beat Niger 1-0 in the Plate quarterfinals of the 2019 WAFU Cup of Nations at the Stade Lat Dior in Thies, Senegal on Sunday.

It was an exciting start to the game with Niger winning a penalty in the eighth minute after Idrissa Halidou was pulled down inside the box by goalkeeper Alpha Jalloh.

Halidou stepped up to take his own spot-kick, but saw his weak attempt saved by Jalloh.

Mali produced a mouth-watering performance as they beat Niger 3-1 in game five of the 2019 WAFU Cup of Nations at the Stade Lat Dior in Thies, Senegal on Monday.

It was symmetrically fitting that Victor Moses claimed redemption from inside the same penalty box where he had earned disgrace just under three months ago.

With Chelsea ascendant after going behind, the Nigerian drove into the box, took one skip past Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, then went down under his own steam.
