New Zealand Football chief resigns due to 'bullying' in women's football

Deryck Shaw, New Zealand Football's (NZF) president, has resigned after failing to appropriately deal with a bullying scandal in the national women's team.

New Zealand Football (NZF) has issued an apology after an independent review found women players had been "bullied and harassed" by ex-coach Andreas Heraf.

Heraf resigned from his post, having been placed on leave since June when NZF received letters from 13 players who said they would not play for the national team if he remained in charge.

Some of the letters alleged bullying and intimidation by Heraf, who also served as technical director of New Zealand Football.

Andreas Heraf, the Austrian-born coach of the New Zealand women's football team, has resigned weeks after players decried his tactics and coaching methods in an unprecedented and public mutiny.

New Zealand Football technical director steps down amid bullying claims

The most powerful coach at New Zealand Football has been stood down following a player revolt over his methods.

NZF on Wednesday announced an independent investigation into Andreas Heraf, who doubles as the national women's coach and the country's technical director, overseeing the progress of all national teams.

Experienced Austrian coach Heraf has been placed on "special leave" from his roles until the completion of a review into the environment at the Football Ferns.

Team Wellington will compete at the FIFA Club World Cup after dispatching Lautoka in the two-leg OFC Champions League final.
