FIFA president Gianni Infantino continues to promote his plan to expand the tournament from 32 to 48 teams and potentially share the hosting duties originally awarded to Qatar with other nations in the Middle East.

Pre-tournament favourites Vietnam were held to a 0-0 draw by Myanmar on Tuesday as the duo remained locked in the top two positions in group A of the AFF Suzuki Cup.

Both teams went into the meeting with two wins, and the draw lifts them to seven points apiece from three games, a point above third-placed Malaysia with one round of group games remaining.

Vietnam maintained their perfect start to the 2018 AFF Suzuki Cup on Friday as Park Hang-seo's side beat Malaysia 2-0 at Hanoi's My Dinh Stadium.

Nguyen Cong Phuong and Nguyen Anh Duc found the back of the net for the Vietnamese, who move level in Group A on six points from two games with Myanmar at the top of the standings after Antoine Hey's team came back from a goal down to defeat Laos 3-1.

Malaysia also have six points but have played one game more. The top two nations in the five-team group...

Malaysia opened the 2018 AFF Suzuki Cup with a 1-0 victory over Cambodia in Group A on Thursday.

Norshahrul Idlan Talaha scored the only goal 30 minutes into the game when he headed home from eight yards after Syamer Kutty Abba's driving run through midfield eventually allowed Zaquan Adha to send in a decisive cross.

In the group's other game, Vietnam cruised to a 3-0 win over Laos to lay down an early marker for the tournament.

AFF Suzuki Cup Group A preview: Malaysia and Vietnam the teams to beat

There are plenty of local rivalries at play in Group A of the 2018 AFF Suzuki Cup. ESPN FC runs the rule over the five hopefuls:

Malaysia

Form: The exploits of the under-23 team this year have been a very welcome piece of good news that has helped lift some of the gloom in Malaysian football. There have been signs of progression under manager Tan Cheng Hoe, but November's tournament is a major test.

Coach: Tan Cheng Hoe. Thoughtful and studious, Tan is well-liked by the players but that won't...
