Malaysia boss Vingada searches for strikers, books Asian Cup friendlies

ESPN FC's Jason Dasey and Stanley Bernard assess Malaysia's national team campaign and if Vingada is under pressure.

Malaysia have booked two August friendlies ahead of their next AFC Asian Cup qualifier as national coach Nelo Vingada steps up his search for a proven goal scorer.

The struggling Southeast Asians will play Macau on Aug. 25 and Myanmar on Aug. 29 ahead of their Sep. 5 qualifying match at home to Hong Kong. They will assemble for centralised training on Aug. 14.

"We are looking for a striker, but it is not easy to find a suitable player because most of the strikers in the Malaysian league are foreigners,"...

Aleksandr Kokko made 13 appearances for the Newcastle Jets, scoring one goal.

Aleksandr Kokko's difficult time in the A-League is over after the Newcastle Jets released him halfway through a two-year deal.

The Finnish striker will join Hong Kong Premier League side Eastern Sports Club, leaving Newcastle on mutual terms.

Kokko, 30, signed with the Jets last August after starring in Finland's top flight where he was twice leading goalscorer.

Jason Dasey and PJ Roberts break down Thailand's resilient 1-1 draw with the UAE in World Cup Qualifying.

Zesh Rehman, left, won a treble of trophies with Pahang in the 2014 season.

Former Pahang captain Zesh Rehman has ended speculation about his future by signing with Hong Kong club Southern District FC.

The English-born Pakistani international, who played for Fulham in the Premier League at the start of his career, had been linked to a return to Malaysia with either Felda United or Terengganu before committing his future to Southern District.

But instead of going back to Malaysia, he chose Hong Kong where he'd played previously for Kitchee in 2012-13.

Chan Yuen-ting learns tough lessons vs. Scolari in AFC Champions League

Jason Dasey and PJ Roberts recap Hulk and Shanghai SIPG's win over FC Seoul and Urawa Reds' big win over Western Sydney.
ACL coaches Chan Yuen-ting and Luiz Felipe Scolari
Chan Yuen-ting faced Luiz Felipe Scolari in Matchday 1 of the AFC Champions League in Guangzhou.

You're an underdog team, playing away to one of the most successful sides in Asia. Barely 30 minutes have gone, you're already trailing 3-0, and now you're down to nine men after a second defender has been sent off.

It was a tough initiation as Chan Yuen-ting became the first female manager to lead a men's side in a continental competition, with Hong Kong's Eastern SC facing Luiz Felipe Scolari's Guangzhou Evergrande in the AFC Champions League (ACL) on Wednesday night.
