LONDON -- England could be without one of its key players for the Women's World Cup next year after playmaker Jordan Nobbs ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee.
Nobbs, England's player of the year in 2016, was injured while playing for Arsenal against Everton in the Women's Super League on Sunday.
"Everyone at the club wishes Jordan a speedy recovery and will give their full support in her journey back to full fitness," an Arsenal statement read.

England Women were beaten 2-0 by Sweden in an international friendly played at Rotherham's New York Stadium on Sunday.

Chioma Ubogagu, Georgia Stanway and Rachel Daly scored as England Women beat Austria 3-0 in an international friendly on Thursday.
Ubogagu opened the scoring in the 26th minute with a right-footed shot from the centre of the area after an assist from Toni Duggan.
Stanway added to the lead in the 71st minute, firing high into the corner from inside the box following a ball from Nikita Parris.
And Daly completed the scoring nine minutes from time from close range.
