Super Falcons defeat Cameroon in AWCON semi to reach World Cup

Nigeria defeated Cameroon 4-2 on penalties to reach the Africa Women Cup of Nations final following a goalless draw in Accra on Tuesday.

The shootout victory put the Super Falcons into their ninth final, where they will meet either South Africa or Mali on Saturday, and also qualifies them for the 2019 World Cup.

Despite struggling against the Indomitable Lionesses for the majority of the contest, the eight-time African champions made no mistake from the spot.

The Indomitable Lionesses will play Nigeria in the semi-finals of the Africa Women Cup of Nations on Tuesday in a repeat of the 2016 and 2014 finals. It's an opportunity for Cameroon to gain a measure of revenge for past heartbreak at the continent's grandest stage.

South Africa play Mali in the other semi after topping Group B with two wins and a draw.

Brazil beat Cameroon 1-0 in a friendly on Tuesday despite losing captain Neymar to injury after seven minutes, as Richarlison's goal made it six wins and six clean sheets for Tite's side since the World Cup.

Brazil took some time to recover from Neymar's departure after the Paris Saint-Germain striker limped off with what looked like a groin strain, but his replacement Richarlison got the game's only goal with a superb header from a corner a minute before half-time.

Hakim Ziyech scored twice as Morocco defeated Cameroon 2-0 in Casablanca on Friday to take a giant step towards next year's Africa Cup of Nations.

Karl Toko Ekambi was sent off in the second half for the Indomitable Lions, who fell to the first defeat of Clarence Seedorf's brief tenure and their first ever loss to Morocco.

The win moves Morocco up to top spot in Group B, on 10 points, and they'll progress if they avoid a defeat by a three-goal margin in their final qualifier against Malawi in March...

Can Cameroon finally get their hands on the AWCON?

The Indomitable Lionesses are heading into the Africa Women Cup of Nations in fine fettle after demolishing Zambia 7-0 in a friendly on Monday.

However, despite their fine form, it remains to be seen whether Cameroon can make up for years of underachievement and rise to the occasion in Ghana.

They've qualified for all 12 editions of the tournament, and have largely impressed - apart from a group-stage exit in South Africa in 2000 - although they've never actually won the tournament.

Only Nigeria,...
