David Timor scored the only goal as Girona edged out La Liga opponents Espanyol on Monday.
Timor struck from close range during first-half stoppage time to give Girona maximum points.
The victory means that they climb five places in LaLiga to ninth, but defeat left Espanyol stuck in 16th spot, one place above Deportivo La Coruna.
Girona, despite having three players booked during the second-half, never really lost control of the contest.
And they were unlucky not to double their lead during the closing stages when Portu's shot from a difficult angle hit the crossbar.
Girona are next in action in six days' time when they host Getafe, while Espanyol face a trip to the league's bottom club Las Palmas.
