A brace from Jafri Firdaus Chew and a deflected effort from Adib Zainuddin helped Malaysia confirm top spot in Group A of the Southeast (SEA) Asian Games after a 3-1 triumph over Laos on Wednesday night.

The 2011 champions overcame a nervous first half when they allowed Laos to equalise to complete a perfect record of four wins in four matches.

They had earlier taken care of Brunei and Singapore with 2-1 victories before strolling past their toughest opponents Myanmar 3-1 on Monday.

Malaysia lose to Syria, concede late again under new coach Vingada

Jason Dasey and John Wilkinson recap Malaysia's 3-1 win over Myanmar which has them poised to win Group A at the SEA Games.

Malaysia were undone by two goals in the last 10 minutes as they fell to a 2-1 defeat to Syria in an international friendly in Malacca on Tuesday night.

It meant that Nelo Vingada's second game in charge ended in identical fashion to his first on June 13 when they lost by the same score to an under-strength Lebanon in their opening AFC Asian Cup qualifier.

The Harimau Malaya were using the match to prepare for their second Asian Cup qualifying match against Hong Kong on Sep. 5.

Jason Dasey and John Wilkinson recap Malaysia's 3-1 win over Myanmar which has them poised to win Group A at the SEA Games.

Malaysia coach Ong Kim Swee paid tribute to two-goal hero N. Thanabalan, describing him as a "treat" after Malaysia powered into the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games' semifinals with a 3-1 victory over Myanmar at Shah Alam Stadium on Monday night.

The Felcra FC striker's double, along with a Safawi Rasid header, means that Malaysia will finish top of Group A if they beat Laos in their final preliminary game on Wednesday.

Jason Dasey and John Wilkinson recap Malaysia's 3-1 win over Myanmar which has them poised to win Group A at the SEA Games.

A brace from N. Thanabalan, coupled with a Safawi Rasid strike, proved enough for Malaysia to whip Myanmar 3-1 in Group A while confirming their Southeast (SEA) Asian Games semifinals berth at Shah Alam Stadium on Monday night.

The victory, orchestrated through two goals in two first-half minutes, will see Malaysia top their group should they overcome Laos in the final group game on Wednesday.
