BFC at risk of losing Kanteerava Stadium over legal tussle

Bengaluru FC (BFC), the reigning ISL champions, could be forced to shift homes with a little over a month to go for the 2019-20 season to begin, as a result of an ongoing court probe into the status of the Kanteerava Stadium, a multi-purpose ground that is shared for practice and events by the Karnataka Athletics Association.

In July this year, some Karnataka-based athletes had objected to the usage of the stadium by the club, pointing out how natural grass had been replaced by artificial grass...

ISL FAQs: Why did Pune and Delhi switch to new teams?

How did the two new ISL clubs - Hyderabad FC and Odisha FC - come to be, and how are they likely to line up for the 2019-20 season? Will these teams be able qualify for the AFC Champions League (ACL) for 2021?

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has not only promoted the ISL to the top division and given a coveted continental slot to the franchise-based league, but their executive committee decided in July to grant the premier ACL slot to the league table toppers.

The AFC Cup slot had...

ISL - Delhi Dynamos to be rebranded Odisha FC, will play out of Bhubaneswar now

In less than a week of Indian Super League (ISL) club FC Pune City closing down and being replaced by Hyderabad FC, the franchise-based league is set to see a new team, Odisha FC. The team will be based in Bhubaneswar and will make its debut for the 2019-20 season.

Odisha FC will, however, be just a rebranding of the erstwhile Delhi Dynamos, two-time semi-finalists in 2015 and 2016, and will play their home games at the Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar. The agreement between the Odisha state government...

Hyderabad FC to replace Pune City in ISL

Even as uncertainty looms over the immediate future of the I-League, the franchise-based Indian Super League (ISL) will have a new team based in Hyderabad for the 2019-20 season.

Hyderabad FC, ESPN understands, will be replacing FC Pune City, a club that has been beset by financial problems over the last couple of years and was reported to be actively considering a merger with Mumbai City FC. The Hyderabad club will be co-owned by Vijay Madduri, an IT entrepreneur, and Varun Tripuraneni,...

FIFA tells I-League clubs to work with AIFF; Bajaj threatens legal action

FIFA has urged Minerva Punjab and the other agitating I-League clubs to work closely with the All India Football Federation (AIFF), who they believe are "best placed" to resolve the "complex issues" facing Indian football. Minerva Punjab co-owner Ranjit Bajaj, the most vocal of the protesting I-League representatives, sent back an angry response shortly afterward, expressing his lack of faith in the federation and its president Praful Patel, referring to the latter as 'dishonest'.

Six I-League clubs,...
