Marta (thigh) to miss Brazil's opener vs. Jamaica
Six-time FIFA Player of the Year Marta will miss Brazil's Women's World Cup opener against Jamaica on Sunday as she continues to recover from a left thigh injury, manager Vadao said Saturday.
"She has been recovering better than expected, but she cannot start," Vadao said at a news conference. "Maybe she will be on the bench, but our plan is that she doesn't take part in the game."
Marta suffered the thigh injury in practice last week but had returned to training Tuesday.
Vadao said Marta could return for the team's second match, against Australia on Thursday.
