Lessons of Mexico's summer: Patience with Osorio, lack of long-term depth

Much like rest of the world, Herculez Gomez and Sebastian Salazar are split over Juan Carlos Osorio's future with Mexico.

It has been a long summer for El Tri and one that ultimately ended in disappointment, with a fourth-place finish at the Confederations Cup in Russia followed by a semifinal defeat to Jamaica at the Gold Cup last Sunday.

Mexico played a match every 3.6 days over three countries, winning nine times, drawing three games and losing four. There were 25 goals scored by El Tri and 17 conceded. Coach Juan Carlos Osorio was able to see 49 players in World Cup qualifying, friendlies, the Confederations...

Mexico will not appeal FIFA suspension of coach Juan Carlos Osorio

Mexico will not appeal the six-game suspension of coach Juan Carlos Osorio, the national federation announced on Friday.

FIFA banned Osorio last week for protesting a controversial referee decision in the third-place game of the Confederations Cup, leaving the coach to watch the ongoing CONCACAF Gold Cup from a stadium suite.

Mexico legend Cuauhtemoc Blanco backs Osorio: 'I'll give him all my trust'

Mexico legends have lined up to criticize El Tri coach Juan Carlos Osorio after recent disappointing performances by the national team, but Cuauhtemoc Blanco is bucking the trend.

Blanco worked under Osorio with the Chicago Fire in 2007 and thinks the Colombian deserves full backing from the media and fans.

"I like him, you [the media] don't like his rotations, but I'll keep on defending him," Blanco told reporters on Sunday. "For me, he's a hard-working coach, a great person and the most important...

SAN DIEGO -- Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio has apologized for his actions during Mexico's 2-1 loss to Portugal for Confederations Cup third place last Sunday.

Osorio was handed a six-game ban by FIFA for protesting a controversial referee decision near the end of the second half of extra-time.

"[I] offer [my] most sincere apologies to all those that felt offended or hurt by my behavior in the game against Portugal," said Osorio on Saturday, adding that he will do "everything possible" so that...

Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio gets six-match ban for Confed Cup protest

Herculez Gomez explains why Mexico's trip to the Confederations Cup was a failure, despite reaching the semifinals.
Adrien Silva's first international goal in extra time helped Portugal claim third place at the Confederations Cup.
The FC crew have a heated debate in reaction to Mexico's rout defeat to Germany in the Confederations Cup semifinals.

FIFA has announced that Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio has been dealt a six-game suspension for protesting a controversial referee decision during Mexico's 2-1 loss to Portugal for Confederations Cup third place.

The ban means he will miss the Gold Cup. Mexico will have to play up to six games to retain the Gold Cup in the United States starting on Sunday when it debuts against El Salvador in San Diego.
