U.S. under-17 defender Mason Judge signs for Eintracht Frankfurt

United States under-17 defender Mason Judge has signed for Eintracht Frankfurt, the Bundesliga club announced on Friday.

The 16-year-old Judge is from Tampa, Florida, but has a British passport through a parent, allowing him to move to Europe before he turns 18.

Judge, who played for Chargers Soccer Club, was a Best XI member of the US. Soccer Development Academy the past two years and joined the U.S. U17s for friendlies in Costa Rica this month.

He will initially join up with Eintracht's U17 team.

"Mason has made a good impression with us in trial training. Likewise, we value the character traits of a player, and he has also convinced us in that regard," said Armin Kraaz, the head of Eintracht's performance center. "We are pleased to have won Mason for our performance center and are confident that he will be an asset."

Judge is the latest of a number of American teenagers to move to Germany in recent months, following the likes of Josh Sargent to Werder Bremen, Zyen Jones with Schalke, Giovanni Reyna at Borussia Dortmund, Sebastian Soto and Chris Gloster at Hannover, and Chris Richards on loan with Bayern Munich.
