Leeds' Samuel Saiz cleared of spitting in Carabao Cup tie against Port Vale

Saiz celeb Leeds vs Port Vale 170809
Leeds celebrate a Samuel Saiz goal during the cup tie against Port Vale.

Leeds have announced that playmaker Samuel Saiz will face no action from the Football Association over spitting allegations.

Saiz was accused by Port Vale boss Michael Brown of spitting in the face of one of his players during last week's Carabao Cup clash at Elland Road.

Leeds expressed disappointment at the accusations in a statement released after the 4-1 win, in which Saiz scored a hat-trick on his debut, and were confident their summer signing was in the clear.

Carabao Cup second-round draw completed after confusion

Manchester United, the holders, will join the competition in the third round in September.

Confusion reigned in the second-round draw for the Carabao Cup on Thursday night.

Drawn in the Sky Sports studios by Alex McLeish and John Salako, alongside host Julian Warren, things appeared to go awry early on as the Southern Section took shape.

George Honeyman netted his first career goal for Sunderland as his side progressed to the second round of the Carabao Cup.

Academy graduate George Honeyman scored his first senior Sunderland goal in the 1-0 Carabao Cup victory over Bury on a night when Darron Gibson made his first-team return.

Midfielder Honeyman dinked over Shakers goalkeeper Joe Murphy with 21 minutes to go after being found by Didier Ndong to earn manager Simon Grayson his maiden victory in the Black Cats' post at their League One hosts.

Grayson included midfielder Gibson for the first time since the Black Cats instigated a disciplinary process...

Saiz hat trick sees Leeds through in Carabao Cup; Aston Villa advance

Leeds showed their class against a stymied Port Vale, with Samuel Saiz grabbing accolades for his hat-trick on the night.

Samu Saiz scored a hat trick on his debut as Leeds eased into the second round of the Carabao Cup with a 4-1 win over Port Vale at Elland Road.

Saiz, a reported £3 million summer signing from Spanish club Huesca in July, took 13 minutes to make an impression when he smashed home a rebound from close range.

Despite Michael Tonge's equaliser against his former club, Saiz netted twice more in as many minutes in the second half, before fellow debutant Caleb Ekuban added a late fourth.
