Brazilian side Gremio hired spy to film opponents' training sessions - report

Brazilian side Gremio employed a spy to film and photograph opponents' training sessions.

Copa Libertadores finalist Gremio have been spying on opponents throughout the 2017 season, according to ESPN Brasil.

A five-month investigation has revealed the two-time Brazilian champions hired an individual to film and photograph training sessions -- both open and closed -- of every Copa Libertadores, league and Copa do Brasil opponent during the current campaign.

The individual used drones, as well as cameras hidden in trees, buildings and walls to tip the Porto Alegre club on on the strategies...

Upstart Lanus look to spring a surprise vs. storied Gremio in Libertadores final

Luan is perhaps the best player in Brazil, and he'll be out to lead Gremio to continental glory.

For the first time since 2012, the Copa Libertadores' two-legged final is between teams from Brazil and Argentina. And to add extra attraction, both Gremio and Lanus are attractive sides who generally demonstrate a commitment to eye-pleasing, attacking football.

Perhaps inevitably, though, there is some controversy in the build-up to Wednesday's first leg. Gremio stand accused of hiring a specialist to spy on Lanus training sessions with the use of a drone. The Brazilian club deny all knowledge...

Gremio deny Barcelona's comeback dreams, advance to Libertadores final

Gremio of Brazil lost its perfect record at home in the competition but gained a place in the Copa final.

Tuesday night produced one of the great comebacks in the history of South America's Copa Libertadores. In an all-Argentine semifinal, Lanus found themselves needing four goals in 46 minutes to overcome River Plate -- and they managed all four, reaching their first final in magnificent style.

Could Wednesday's semifinal match it for drama? The task ahead of Barcelona of Ecuador was, if anything, even more daunting than that which had faced Lanus. Barcelona had lost the first leg 3-0 at home to Gremio...

River Plate's Marcelo Gallardo blasts use of VAR in Copa Lib loss to Lanus

Alejandro Silva scored from the spot in the 69th minute to complete Lanus' comeback.

River Plate coach Marcelo Gallardo has questioned the implementation of VAR in South America after the club's surprise elimination from the Libertadores Cup semifinal on Tuesday at the hands of Lanus.

Gallardo's side took a 1-0 first-leg lead into Tuesday's encounter at Lanus and had a 2-0 advantage on the night after 23 minutes played.

River could have extended their lead had they been awarded a 40th-minute penalty. River's Ignacio Scocco cut inside the rival's area and the ball came off Ivan Marcone's...

Lanus completes stunning comeback to beat River, reach Libertadores final

River Plate scored twice to go ahead 3-0 on aggregate before Lanus roared back to prevail.

At the weekend River Plate and Lanus fielded reserve sides in their Argentine league games. Both lost 4-0, but they were happy to keep their stars fresh for this crunch meeting in the Copa Libertadores, South America's version of the Champions League. And what a night it turned out to be.

In last Tuesday's first semifinal leg, River Plate won by the only goal. Their victory was twofold. First, the obvious -- they were ahead at the halfway stage. Second, they had denied Lanus an away goal. Coach...
