Tony Pulis axed over lack of progress at West Brom, as club stagnate

With the news emerging that Tony Pulls has parted ways with West Brom, Alison Bender and Stewart Robson discuss what his next move will be.

After his team had been thrashed 4-0 by Chelsea on Saturday, Tony Pulis turned his thoughts to life beyond football and it became clear he knew the end was nigh at West Brom.

"I've got a family and I do a lot of work for certain charities," he said in his postmatch news conference. "I can move, I've been in the game long enough to understand that you can't affect what someone else is going to do."

Pulis clearly accepted the consequences of just two victories in 21 matches, and was fully aware of...

Arsenal dominate, Paul Pogba returns, Tony Pulis in trouble

ESPN FC's Mark Ogden analyses the finer points of Arsenal's win over Spurs, Mesut Ozil's show-stopping performance and more.
First-half goals from Shkodran Mustafi and Alexis Sanchez led Arsenal over Tottenham in the North London derby.
English Premier League: Mohamed Salah (31') Liverpool 1-0 Southampton
Craig Burley explains how Man United benefitted from Paul Pogba's clever thinking and movement against Newcastle.

Well...no one saw that coming, did they? A resolute and determined Arsenal outplaying Tottenham in all departments and securing a fully deserved victory? Pick the bones out of that narrative. There are positives for Spurs though. People keep saying, "Mauricio Pochettino isn't that good; he hasn't won anything yet," as if transforming a team of sporadically decent also-rans into back-to-back title contenders isn't worthy of a medal in itself. Well, this performance was vintage Tottenham. It was disjointed,...

Rampant Chelsea's 4-0 win at West Brom puts Pulis on the brink

Eden Hazard is starting to look like his old self again after starting the season with an injury as Chelsea took apart West Brom 4-0.

WEST BROMWICH, England -- Three quick thoughts from Chelsea's 4-0 win over West Brom at the Hawthorns on Saturday.

1. Rampant Chelsea put Pulis on the brink

A Saturday afternoon stroll for Chelsea, but deep trouble for West Brom and manager Tony Pulis. Heavy defeat leaves the Baggies a point above the relegation zone, with their lowest total at this juncture of the season since going down in 2005-06. Just two wins in 21 matches -- and this horrific performance -- look to spell the end for...

Patience wearing thin for West Brom fans with Tony Pulis during bad run

Tony Pulis bemoans West Brom's play in their loss against Huddersfield.
Tony Pulis bemoans West Brom's play in their loss against Huddersfield.

There was a time when you could say that any club who appoints Tony Pulis knows what they're getting.Pulis has, thanks to his work at Stoke, Crystal Palace and now West Brom, become a byword for frill-free stability. The football would not be aesthetically pleasing, it would be physical and solid but he would make your previously underperforming team better.

Most of all, he was a guarantee of survival, a surefire way of banking 40 points and ensuring those sweet Premier League pounds kept rolling...

Half-and-half scarf at Leicester-West Brom bosses begs question: why?

The half-and-half scarf is truly a curious beast.

To some, it's simply a memento of a particular fixture; to others, it serves as the manifestation of all that is wrong with modern football: the transient loyalties, the rampant commercialism, etc.

Just when you thought you'd seen football merchandise reach its nadir, Monday night's Premier League clash between Leicester City and West Brom coughed up a curious evolution of the game's most derided souvenir.

Presenting, the managerial half-and-halfer.

What...

Arsenal rely on set pieces, Alexandre Lacazette to take 2-0 victory over West Brom

LONDON -- Three quick thoughts from Arsenal's 2-0 Premier League win over West Bromwich Albion at the Emirates on Monday night:

1. Arsenal win despite lack of quality

They say the sign of a good side is "winning without playing well," but few Arsenal fans will be fervently discussing the quality of their side on their way home on Monday. This was a nervous and unconvincing performance from the home side, who relied upon Alexandre Lacazette nodding home a rebound from Alexis Sanchez's free...
