Crouch enjoys off-season 'family' time at the zoo

With the sun blazing and football on the back burner for a few more weeks, Peter Crouch has been using his summer holiday to wind down, relax and spend a bit of quality time with the family.

Indeed, the 6-foot-7 Stoke City striker enjoyed a day trip to the zoo, where he took the time to drop in on a couple of equally gangly "relatives."

Yep. We can certainly see the resemblance!

Stoke winger Sobhi falls victim to elaborate prank

Stoke winger Ramadan Sobhi got a little more than he bargained for on returning to his native Egypt in order to report for international duty.

Indeed, the 20-year-old fell foul of a ridiculously elaborate stunt devised by notorious television prankster Ramez Galel.

The panic began setting...

Same old story for Stoke as Darren Fletcher joins on a free transfer

Darren Fletcher could be a savvy addition for Stoke City, but at 33, he won't add any needed youth to the roster.

In February, Stoke fans read the first of many newspaper reports suggesting the club were due to undergo significant surgery in the summer in order to lower the average age of the squad following a season of disappointment.

The story added: "[Stoke manager Mark] Hughes has the support of the Stoke hierarchy and remains on course for a top-10 finish, but there is a realisation at board level that the squad needs younger, more dynamic players."

It was music to the ears of supporters who had...

Stoke need reinforcements virtually everywhere after miserable campaign

Janusz Michallik and Alexis Nunes take a long look at how the Premier League top 6 shaped out this season.
Mark Hughes and Stoke City had virtually nothing to celebrate this season.

A disappointing season, which picked up where the previous one ended, completed 18 months of misery under an increasingly floundering Mark Hughes.

Rating out of 10: 2

Highlight

Sadly, there has been very little to celebrate this season, making it nigh on impossible to pick even a solitary highlight from it. The manager himself was asked the same question, and his response was to champion draws against Manchester United and Manchester City, which gives a telling indication of just how underwhelming...

Crouch secures three points for Stoke vs. Saints as Butland performs heroics

Peter Crouch's towering header won Stoke City all three points as Southampton's barren home run continued.
Peter Crouch's towering header won Stoke City all three points as Southampton's barren home run continued.
Peter Crouch made good on a pre-match bet with a Stoke supporter after the Potters' 1-0 win at Southampton.

Stoke edged a nervous final-day encounter as they beat Southampton 1-0 in a game that neither side looked like winning until Peter Crouch rose to secure three points. The Potters started poorly in an unfamiliar 3-4-3 formation that caused them all manner of problems, gifting space and time to the opposition to send the ball into their penalty area virtually unopposed.

Stoke somehow managed to hang on until the break and reemerged for the second half back in Mark Hughes' tried-and-trusted shape of...

Stoke City's fall to bottom half is not a new development after steady decline

After a promising start in his first two seasons at Stoke, Mark Hughes' side have been in decline for the past 18 months.

A 4-1 defeat against Arsenal in their last game was a result that guaranteed a finish outside of the top 10 for the first time in Mark Hughes' tenure at Stoke. In fact, aside from his spell with Queens Park Rangers, when given a full season anywhere, he has never finished in the bottom half of the Premier League.

In that respect, on paper it would suggest that his latest campaign was somewhat of a blip. But with all things considered, the league table does not tell the whole story. For example,...
