Sources: Ochoa's no-show due to travel issues

Brian McBride explains how playing Liga MX teams mid-season in the Leagues Cup will either help or hurt the four MLS teams involved.
Herculez Gomez and Shaka Hislop weigh the pros and cons of CONCACAF's qualifying format for the 2022 World Cup, which emphasizes the FIFA rankings.

Mexico international Guillermo Ochoa didn't show up for training at Standard Liege on Sunday due to travel complications to Belgium, sources close to the player have told ESPN FC.

Ochoa had been criticized on Sunday by Standard Liege's CEO Alexandre Grosjean for "lacking professionalism" in not turning up, which came as a surprise to Ochoa's camp, as the 34-year-old had made head coach Michel Preud'homme and club president Buno Venanzi aware of his delayed return to preseason, according to the sources.

Mexico's Ochoa: 'Time to leave' Standard Liege

USMNT's Gregg Berhalter praises the Mexican federation for its success in CONCACAF and says the organization has set the benchmark for MLS and U.S. Soccer.

Mexico national team goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa is looking to leave Belgian club Standard Liege this summer, with Sunday's game against Genk likely to be his last in the Belgian first division.

"There's still a game left, but I think it will be my last," said Ochoa after his team's 2-0 win over Club Brugge on Thursday, in quotes published on the league's website.

"We've already spoken with the club and there are things still to resolve, but I think it is the time to leave."

Guillermo Ochoa: Not my fault Napoli move fell through

Mexico international Guillermo Ochoa insists his botched move to Napoli fell through over problems elsewhere, rather than his own qualities.

Standard Liege goalkeeper Ochoa, who impressed for Mexico at the World Cup, had been linked with a move to Napoli when their new signing Alex Meret broke an arm shortly after joining the club this summer. Ochoa, 33, had been one of the frontrunners for the role but David Ospina joined on loan from Arsenal instead.

"We only have one more obstacle...

Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa closing in on Napoli move

Mexico international Guillermo Ochoa's path to joining Napoli appears to be clearing, club president Aurelio de Laurentiis has said.

De Laurentiis admitted his club's interest in Ochoa on Tuesday while discussing the dilemma of each Serie A club only being allowed three non-European Union players. The rule threatens to squash deals to bring Ochoa in from Standard Liege and full-back Santiago Arias from PSV Eindhoven.

But the Italian club appear to have set their sights on France-born Bordeaux...
