Vitor Pereira has taken over in Shanghai.

Brazilian striker Hulk is confident new Shanghai SIPG coach Vitor Pereira can lead the club to their first piece of silverware when the Chinese Super League season kicks off in March.

SIPG have yet to win a trophy despite huge sums spent on luring a host of foreign players to the club, but the former Porto and Zenit St Petersburg forward is convinced Pereira can deliver where Sven-Goran Eriksson and Andre Villas-Boas fell short.

Pereira, who also succeeded Villas-Boas at Porto in 2011, was officially appointed on Tuesday and said: "I want to thank SIPG for putting their trust in me.

"For me, it's a challenge to coach such an ambitious club.

"This is a top challenge. The Chinese Super League is a league with huge potential, with so many top coaches and big name players gathering here.

Shanghai SIPG have appointed Vitor Pereira to replace Andre Villas-Boas as head coach after the 49-year-old Portuguese was unveiled at a ceremony in Shanghai on Tuesday.

Pereira, who also succeeded Villas-Boas when he left Porto to take over at Chelsea in the summer of 2011, will be the latest coach to attempt to lead SIPG to the Chinese Super League (CSL) title.

SIPG finished second last season and also reached the final of the Chinese FA Cup and the semifinals of the AFC Champions League.

Villas-Boas, who joined the club last winter on a one-year contract reported to be worth €15 million, has stepped down having failed to deliver on his preseason promise to win a trophy for the big-spending club.
