Vancouver Whitecaps sign Canada's Lucas Cavallini for club-record fee

Steve Nicol believes Whitecaps manager Marc Dos Santos was out of line calling MLS a "Mickey Mouse" league.

There will be a homecoming in Vancouver as Canadian forward Lucas Cavallini will join the Whitecaps on a transfer from Liga MX club Puebla.

According to the Whitecaps, Cavallini is being added on a "club-record transfer fee" which sources told ESPN is worth as much as $6 million, with Toronto native Cavallini agreeing to a three-year contract with an option for 2023.

"I am happy to be here, happy for this opportunity, happy this club pushed for me, and it feels great." Cavallini said in a release....

The Vancouver Whitecaps have agreed terms with Puebla to secure the transfer of Canada international forward Lucas Cavallini, multiple sources have told ESPN.

A source close to the situation said that Cavallini has agreed to a four-year contract, with Puebla receiving a $6 million transfer fee, a record amount for the Whitecaps.

Another source told ESPN that Liga MX side Atlas were also in the mix for Cavallini, but that Puebla didn't want to sell the Canadian to a potential relegation rival....

Puebla pledges free beer if club loses to Juarez

Puebla fans can look forward to free beer if the club loses on Thursday.

PUEBLA -- Puebla fans who attend the club's Liga MX match against Juarez on Thursday will receive free beer if the home side fails to win, the club has announced.

The free beer would be distributed at the club's next home game on Matchday 9 (Sept. 13) against Atletico de San Luis.

"If we don't win on Thursday, you get a free beer in the match against @AtletideSanLuis!," read a tweet from Puebla's official Twitter account.

The Camoteros have not won in their past five matches and are second-to-bottom...

Javier Torrente became the second Liga MX manager fired this weekend after being dismissed by Morelia on Sunday, a day after Jose Luis "Chelis" Sanchez was relieved of his duties at Puebla.

Morelia lost 1-0 on Saturday evening to Club America and Torrente stated afterwards that his future was out of his hands, but did point out that his team had faced a start that included games against reigning Liga MX champion Tigres, CONCACAF Champions League holder Monterrey, as well as giant Club America.

Possum wins 'man of the match' award in Liga MX as Puebla defeat Veracruz

Puebla defeated Veracruz 1-0 on Friday in Liga MX in an important win for La Franja, but the man of the match award wasn't given to any of the actual players.

Instead, a limping "tlacuache" -- a possum -- that entered the pitch in the first half to the bemusement of the public and those watching on TV was the centre of attention, winning the award according to one TV station.

Veracruz is a side staring relegation in the face and with Puebla 1-0 up, the away team took the opportunity to make fun...
