Ryan Edwards' second-half header secured Plymouth their point from a 1-1 draw at Southend.

An early own goal from Pilgrims defender Sonny Bradley put the Shrimpers in front at Roots Hall.

But Edwards' 62nd-minute equaliser ensured the game ended all square.

Southend - beaten 5-0 at Rotherham in their previous outing - bossed the majority of the first half and took the lead when Jermaine McGlashan's right-wing cross was diverted into his own net by Bradley.

The Shrimpers remained on top with Ryan Leonard...

Jake Jervis bagged a second-half brace as promoted Plymouth overcame Charlton 2-0 at Home Park to claim the first points of their League One campaign.

Argyle were beaten by Peterborough in their season opener last week but Jervis' double ensured they bounced back in style.

It was the Addicks who had the first chance as skipper Chris Solly's thumping long range drive was saved by Pilgrims goalkeeper Luke McCormick after 21 minutes.

McCormick immediately bettered that stop with a brilliant reaction save...

Teenage striker Freddie Hinds marked his debut with a brilliant long-range goal as Bristol City romped into the Carabao Cup second round with a 5-0 destruction of Plymouth at Ashton Gate.

Having scored three first-half goals against Barnsley in their opening Championship fixture on Saturday, City went one better and were 4-0 up by the 39th minute.

Jens Hegeler's bobbling right-footed shot from the edge of the box put them ahead inside two minutes and former loanee Nathan Baker marked his first appearance...

Peterborough striker Marcus Maddison makes spitting accusation

Peterborough striker Marcus Maddison has alleged he was spat at during Saturday's League One victory over Plymouth.

Posh began the new season with a 2-1 win at the ABAX Stadium but Maddison was left fuming.

He wrote on Twitter: "For a fellow professional to spit on me while I'm down injured is a joke. Hope he is fined or banned. This ain't league 2 no more."

Maddison received treatment after going down in the build-up to Plymouth's goal in the 76th minute.

A Peterborough spokesman told the Peterborough...

Promoted Plymouth made a losing return to League One as they suffered a 2-1 setback at Peterborough.

The Pilgrims fell behind just four minutes into their opening fixture of the season when a Leo Da Silva Lopes cross took a wicked deflection off Gary Sawyer - who was credited with an own goal - and flummoxed goalkeeper Luke McCormick.

Plymouth conceded again two minutes into the second period as their appeals for a foul were ignored after Posh debutant Jack Marriott robbed defender Sonny Bradley. Marriott...
