North Carolina Courage leave no doubt with NWSL championship rout of Red Stars

CARY, N.C. -- It could have been a better spectacle for the full house in attendance and the national television audience at home. There might have been more drama if the first goal hadn't come before some of those fans were even in their seats inside WakeMed Soccer Park.

But those things would have been mirages, misrepresentations of what actually happened on not just this field but fields across the league this season. And last season, for that matter.

Can Sam Kerr, Red Stars end Courage's bid to repeat as NWSL champions?

Tierna Davidson was just 14 years old when the National Women's Soccer League played its first championship game in 2013. The Chicago Red Stars rookie and World Cup-winning defender will presumably be on the field when her team plays the North Carolina Courage for the NWSL title Sunday (ESPN and ESPN App, 3:30 p.m. ET).

Debinha drives Courage to NWSL title clash with Red Stars

CARY, N.C. -- Debinha scored on a free kick in extra time to snap a tie, and the North Carolina Courage went on to defeat Reign FC 4-1 in extra time Sunday to advance to the National Women's Soccer League championship game.

The Courage, winners of the NWSL Shield for the third straight year with a league-best 15-5-4 record, will host the Chicago Red Stars, who beat the Portland Thorns 1-0 in the other semifinal.

Heather O'Reilly, who is retiring at the end of this season, scored on a penalty kick...

Sources: Wanderers to sign NWSL MVP Williams

NWSL: Crystal Dunn (4') Portland Thorns 0-1 North Carolina Courage
Midge Purce tapped in two goals after Christine Sinclair's opener to give the Portland Thorns a comfortable 3-0 win over the Chicago Red Stars.
Reign FC came back from a goal down to force a 1-1 draw with Sky Blue FC at Red Bull Arena.

Western Sydney Wanderers have landed a coup in signing United States forward Lynn Williams for the upcoming W-League season, sources have told ESPN.

ESPN understands that rival Australian side Melbourne City had also been engaged in talks with Williams to join the club from the beginning of the 2019-20 season but are now resigned to being comfortably outbid by Western Sydney.

Though she has never played in the W-League, Williams maintained her fitness by training with City during the 2018-19 W-League...
