Paul Mariner rates the latest transfer rumours surrounding Neymar, Mauro Icardi, Leroy Sane, Mesut Ozil and David Neres.

Melbourne City have signed Uruguayan attacking midfielder Javier Cabrera for the looming A-League season.

The 27-year-old has more than 200 matches of experience in leagues in Spain, Uruguay, Mexico and Argentina.

Cabrera, who most recently played for Montevideo Wanderers, has been earmarked for a central midfield role by City, the club's football director Michael Petrillo said in a statement on Tuesday.

FFA Cup: Fowler to make coaching debut vs. Sydney FC

The first competitive match of Robbie Fowler's Brisbane Roar reign will be an FFA Cup clash away at A-League champions Sydney FC.

The Liverpool legend, who is embarking on the first full-time head coaching role of his storied career, will take the Roar to face Steve Corica's Sky Blues in a round-of-32 clash after the pair were drawn together on Wednesday.

It will be Fowler's first big challenge at the helm of the new-look Roar who have shipped out 16 players following their disastrous 2018-19 A-League...

Mombaerts appointed new Melbourne City boss

Melbourne City announced experienced French mentor Erick Mombaerts as the A-League club's new head coach on Thursday, filling the vacancy left by Englishman Warren Joyce's departure.

Among Mombaerts list of career achievements is stints in charge of France's under-18s and under-21s, where he coached 2018 World Cup winners Raphael Varane and Antoine Griezmann.

The 64-year-old says a key part of his role with City will be developing local talent.

"In France we are one of the best countries to build...

Craig Noone joins Melbourne City

ESPN FC's Alejandro Moreno sifts through the latest transfer rumours, including where Matthijs de Ligt will land in the summer transfer window.

Melbourne City still don't have a senior coach for next A-League season but they've signed their second foreign player in Craig Noone.

The 31-year-old English attacking midfielder and winger has joined from crisis-hit third-tier English League One side Bolton Wanderers, who were relegated from the Championship in April and placed in administration last month.

Noone's signing is unlikely to appease AAMI Park fans, who are desperate for the Manchester City-aligned club to loosen the purse strings...
