Chances were few and far between as Preston North End and Bolton played out to a scoreless deadlock.

Preston's struggles continued as they were held to a goalless draw at home by Lancashire rivals Bolton.

Both sides could, and perhaps should, have broken the deadlock with North End's Tom Barkhuizen and Wanderers' Josh Vela having the best chances of the match in the first half.

But goalkeepers Ben Alnwick and Chris Maxwell ultimately came out on top as Preston's winless run reached seven Championship games, while improving Bolton are now unbeaten in six.

Improving Bolton, unbeaten in October, kicked off November with a 2-1 Skybet Championship victory over Norwich at the Macron Stadium.

Strikers Gary Madine and Adam Armstrong struck in the last 10 minutes of the opening period to make it five games without defeat for Phil Parkinson's Trotters.

Wanderers, who had thrown away six points in their previous three games, remain in the relegation zone. However, nine points from a possible 15 have lifted them off bottom before Sunderland's game against Middlesbrough...

Sunderland twice came from behind to draw 3-3 against Bolton but it was not enough to prevent the men from Wearside equalling an unwanted record - or keep manager Simon Grayson in a job.

The battle of the Championship's bottom two saw both teams take the lead and lose it before Paddy McNair levelled things up for the final time with 11 minutes remaining.

The result meant the Black Cats tied an English league record of going 19 matches without a win on home soil, and they announced Grayson's departure...

Ameobi brothers prove they have sibling connection in goal records

It proved to be a good weekend for the Ameobi brothers, as both Shola and Sammy managed to get their names on the scoresheet for Notts County and Bolton Wanderers respectively.

Elder sibling Shola netted County's third and final goal in a comprehensive 3-0 win over Newport County that sent them back to the top of the League Two table.

Up in the Championship, younger brother Sammy scored Bolton's only goal in a 1-1 draw against Fulham, giving rise to a fantastically unlikely stat.

Both the Ameobi...
