Josh Onomah is a fresh injury concern for Aston Villa ahead of their Carabao Cup tie against Wigan.

The midfielder, on loan from Tottenham, came off with a head injury during the league win over Norwich at the weekend and he will be assessed.

Gabby Agbonlahor missed that match through injury and he remains a doubt but Ritchie De Laet should be available. Mile Jedinak (groin) is fit again but he is likely to be saved for the Sky Bet Championship trip to Bristol City on Friday night.

Jedinak will get Australia call if he 'gets through 90 minutes' - Postecoglou

With Mile Jedinak back in the Australia squad, questions arise whether or not he's the right man for the job.

Socceroos skipper Mile Jedinak will be available for the World Cup qualifiers against Japan and Thailand if he gets through club duty this week unscathed.

Coach Ange Postecoglou told ABC's Offsiders he had been in regular contact with Jedinak, who was selected in his preliminary 30-man squad despite struggling with the groin injury that kept him out of the Confederations Cup.

But he expects Jedinak should be right, provided he plays and recovers well from at least one of Aston Villa's two matches...

Conor Hourihane netted a hat-trick as Aston Villa answered their critics in style with a scintillating 4-2 home triumph over Norwich.

Keinan Davis made a sparkling first-team debut up front, and was involved in Villa's two first-half goals - scored by Hourihane and Andre Green.

The Canaries hit back with a 60th-minute strike from Josh Murphy, but Hourihane bagged his second eight minutes later and, although Norwich stormed back through Nelson Oliveira's strike on 79 minutes, Hourihane made sure of...

Aston Villa's poor start to the Sky Bet Championship season continued when they lost 2-1 against Reading at Madejski Stadium.

Villa rarely ventured forward in the first half and Steve Bruce's side were undone by two goals in six minutes early in the second period, as they remained without a win after three games.

Glenn Whelan deflected an Adrian Popa cross into his own net, via an upright, and then Modou Barrow struck from close range for his first goal for Reading.

Ange Postecoglou names Mile Jedinak in 30-man Australia squad

Head coach Ange Postecoglou sits down with ESPN FC's Jason Dasey to discuss the future of Australia's national football team.

Ange Postecoglou has thrown a lifeline to injury-troubled skipper Mile Jedinak, naming him in a provisional 30-man squad for two matches that will determine Australia's World Cup destiny.

Jedinak missed the Confederations Cup due to a groin injury and hasn't played club football for Aston Villa since April but he's nearing a return to full fitness.

Postecoglou will keep tabs on him before finalising a 23-man group next week for the World Cup qualifiers against Japan and Thailand.

Jedinak, 33, pulled...
