Vitor Pereira replaces Villas-Boas as Shanghai SIPG coach

Vitor Pereira takes over from Andre Villas-Boas at Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG.

Shanghai SIPG have appointed Vitor Pereira to replace Andre Villas-Boas as head coach after the 49-year-old Portuguese was unveiled at a ceremony in Shanghai on Tuesday.

Pereira, who also succeeded Villas-Boas when he left Porto to take over at Chelsea in the summer of 2011, will be the latest coach to attempt to lead SIPG to the Chinese Super League (CSL) title.

SIPG finished second last season and also reached the final of the Chinese FA Cup and the semifinals of the AFC Champions League.

Arch rivals Guangzhou Evergrande were crowned Chinese champions for a record sevenths straight season.

Villas-Boas quit at the end of a frustrating campaign during which he picked up several lengthy touchline bans. The former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur boss plans to try a change of sports by driving in the Dakar Rally next month.

SIPG have finished in the top three in the Chinese Super League in each of the last three seasons.

They took second and third in 2014 and 2015 under Sven-Goran Eriksson before Villas-Boas guided the club to second last year.
