Karl-Heinz Rummenigge will leave his post as ECA chairman this year.

One of the most powerful positions in club football has become available after Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has announced he will not run for re-election as the chairman of the European Club Association.

The former Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Germany striker has chaired the ECA since it replaced the G-14 group of Europe's biggest clubs in 2008. Still chairman at Bayern, the 61-year-old has helped the ECA grow to 220 member clubs from 53 associations.

The Football Association has announced plans to host the 2021 UEFA European Women's Championship.

NYON, Switzerland -- UEFA hit Polish football club Legia Warsaw with a disciplinary charge Friday after their fans displayed a vast banner commemorating Poles killed by the Nazis.

Legia fans displayed the banner, which was the width of an entire stand, during Wednesday's Champions League qualifier against Kazakh team FC Astana.

Judge grants bail to suspended Spain federation chief Angel Maria Villar

MADRID -- A Spanish judge has granted bail to the suspended president of the Spanish Football Federation, who is in jail for suspected corruption.

Angel Maria Villar was denied bail by National Court judge Santiago Pedraz on July 20, two days after the 67-year-old Villar, his son and two other officials were arrested during police raids.
